The world comes to Armagh

The world comes to Armagh

We had a great day in Armagh Cathedral City at this year’s St Patricks Day Parade. The theme this year was The World Comes to Armagh.

Our float was called Have a heart for the World and love your neighbour. We had great fun meeting and greeting the public.

The crowds responded with smiles and positive comments and the media picked up the message. As a result we were featured on UTV as part of the parade. We could not have put the float together without all our fantastic volunteers, who came from near and far to help on the day.

We were please with the company of Malcolm Peirce, from Reading in England and he helped us to focus on our roots, our calling and our commitment to this area.

Malcolm said of his experience, “The St Patrick’s Day Parade in Armagh summed up for me what Ireland has taught me, that the future if any community relies not on the grand gestures of great men, but on the many small acts of kindness of apparently insignificant individuals towards one another. Armed only with sweets, scouring pads in the shape of a ‘helping hand’, I was very conscious as I walked or ran up to local people along the route that each one had their own story and would react differently to my English accent. My hope? That a smile, an outstretched hand, a kind word or a joke shared, would speak volumes.”

At the end of the parade the Mega Mobile was set up and pancakes and good chat served up for one and all.
